Welsh Course
Although several of our staff are now able to communicate to some extent in Welsh after learning via the 'Say Something in Welsh' app, we decided in September to start a formal Welsh language course for all the Home's staff. In partnership with Bangor University, Mair Rees (the University's Welsh tutor) came to us to begin an eight-week course for a group of staff, held for two hours every Friday afternoon. This unique course has been designed for health and social care staff, focusing on speaking rather than written work. The plan is for the remaining staff to start the same course once the current one concludes. The staff have provided very positive feedback after attending the course for two weeks. It seems that Mair, the Welsh tutor, teaches the staff a great deal by using role-play exercises, thereby encouraging them to practise speaking with one another. Many thanks to Mair and to Bangor University for offering this invaluable course to us.
Hospital
We are delighted to see Mr Bryan Brake and Ms Elizabeth Thornton back at the Home after a spell in hospital. We hope you have recovered by now.
Holidays
Our Nursing Lead, Gabi Sabadus, spent a fortnight on holiday with her husband, visiting her family in Cluj, Romania. Our Carer, Nicola Ellis, enjoyed a holiday with her family in Tenerife, while our Senior Carer, Anna-Liza, and her husband Mike are currently visiting their families in the Philippines for a month. Many thanks to everyone who worked extra hours during their absence.
Leisure Activities
It has been a very busy month, with the care staff preparing a range of activities for the residents. Special thanks go to Mary and Nicola for organizing an arts and crafts afternoon and for celebrating 'Owain Glyndŵr Day' on the 20th. Thanks also for celebrating Waldo Williams's birthday on the 30th by discussing some of his poems and organizing an art session themed around 'gratitude'. The care staff's efforts in arranging these celebrations were greatly appreciated.
Birthday
Many thanks to the cooks for providing a cake, cards, and a gift to celebrate the birthdays of our residents, Mr Brian Collins and Mr Trefor Davies. We hope you enjoyed your special day.
