Welcome
We would like to welcome a new resident to the Home, Mrs Anona Edwards from Maentwrog. I hope you settle well among us. Everyone would also like to welcome a new carer to the Home, Jonathan Jones. Jonathan is from Abergele and has many years of experience in the health and social care field. Jonathan also holds a Diploma level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (adults) and is a Welsh speaker. Good luck to him in the new job!
The Care Home’s 35th anniversary
In June, there was a party to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Cartref Bryn yr Eglwys organised by our Nurse Manager, Meryl Welsby who has run the Care Home since 1990! We started with ten residents and over time the numbers have now increased to thirty after several extensions. Many thanks to Mererid Williams (Dear daughter of our resident Mrs Dorothy Jones) for being so willing to entertain us during the celebration by playing a number of well-known hymns and songs on the organ. It was nice to see a few old members of staff on the day as well as our special guest - Mr Rob Davies from Llanrwst. Rob’s aunt was our first resident at the Home all those years ago! It was a great honour to be able to celebrate a milestone like this. Thank you to the Chefs for providing refreshments and drinks for the party and to our former member of staff - Hannah Keating for providing and decorating such a lovely cake. Following the success of the Home's birthday celebration, Meryl was invited to hold a talk on Bore Cothi on Radio Cymru. There was also a lot of publicity with other interviews in the local newspaper
Holidays
Many of the staff enjoyed holidays over the past two months. Our Clinical Nurse Lead Gabi Sabadus was on holiday in Romania visiting family and friends. Gabi celebrated her niece's wedding during her time off. Our Senior Nurse Kelsey Parry was on holiday in Greece for a week to also celebrate her friend's wedding. The photos of both weddings were lovely! Our Nursing Manager Meryl Welsby enjoyed a few days away in Amsterdam with her friend, and children Morgan and Mali. They enjoyed a Jewish walking tour after visiting the Anne Frank house and the Van Gough Museum. Senior Carer, Elain Morris was at the Royal Welsh Show with her Father exhibiting his pigeons with great success. Nicola Ellis was also away at the Royal Welsh Show with her husband Aled.
Happy Birthday
Many of our residents’ birthdays have been celebrated over the last three months. We would like to say a big thank you to the chefs for providing special birthday cakes for all of them. Thanks to the carers for also making sure there is a card and a gift for everyone. Mrs Dorothy Jones celebrated her special day with her family. A small party was provided for them as it was a special occasion for her to reach the great age of 90. Another birthday of special note was that of Mrs Lena Jones at the age of 95. The staff would like to thank Lena's family for the delicious cakes they brought to the Home. Not forgetting Mrs Ena Wynne's special 99th birthday. Mrs Wynne was the former Headmistress of Llanrwst primary school before she was elected Mayor in Conwy County and had her efforts recognized with an MBE.
Baby Shower
We would like to wish our Nurse Jeevan Jyoti all the best during her maternity period. Cartref Bryn yr Eglwys held their first 'baby shower' with many of the Home’s staff enjoying themselves. Many thanks to Meryl Welsby for organizing the party and for providing an amazing buffet and fizz! The party was full of fun games. Jeevan was overwhelmed by the generosity of the staff towards her and the new baby. Thanks to everyone for turning up, it was a great success!
Training
The staff were very busy last month completing courses related to skin integrity and how to prevent skin lesions that are sometimes seen with people who spend a long time in their beds. A workshop was also held by Meryl for the Nurses on how to plan the unique care of all our residents.
Activities
Many of our residents have taken advantage of the nice weather that they have enjoyed, with many going for a walk to the Village and a few enjoying a cup of tea in the 'Bocs Bwyd'. We are so lucky to have this cafe serving the community. Mark Kendall (our maintenance person) was busy building two 'gazebos' on the patio of the Home, and it was nice to see so many of our residents taking advantage of sitting out during nice afternoons. A few afternoons of entertainment were held - karaoke, quizzes, finishing the proverb, chair exercises etc. The largest lounge was prepared for and to watch the main annual events on S4C, including the Royal Welsh Show and the National Eisteddfod from Wrexham.
