Cartref Bryn yr Eglwys on a sunny day

December Newsletter 2025

Christmas Day - A great day was had at the Home with Santa Claus visiting residents with lots of presents for everyone! A delicious turkey dinner was provided by Darren and Mike. It was nice to have most of them sit warmly together while chatting and enjoying their lunch. Many thanks to all our staff for making so much effort on the day.

Birthday - Mrs Brenda Mcdonnell's (Blaenau Ffestiniog) Birthday was celebrated during December with a present and cake and she was delighted with the arrangements.

Welcome - We would like to welcome Mrs Thelma Roberts (Pandy Tudur) and Mrs Eleanor Roberts (Caernarfon) as new residents to the Home.

Work Party - There was a fun evening at the staff party which was held at Pen y Bryn Hotel Colwyn Bay on the 4th of December. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves - the delicious food, the constant drinks and opening their 'secret santa' presents!!

Festive Activities - There was a host of entertainment at the Home over the Festive period including concerts by Llangwm Choir, and Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan children. Singing carols with Mrs Mererid Williams. Two religious services were held with the first led by Father Umekachikelu of the Catholic Church in Llanrwst. There was a second special service by the Reverend Brian Evans from Ruthin Chapel who brought some of his congregation with him to take part in the service. Following the thorough arrangements of carer Mary Roberts - there were different activities for each day which varied from a festive quiz, karaoke, craft work and the staff's pantomine! Thanks also to our carer George Michael for bringing his projector and screen to show some old films in the Home's living room which was turned into 'a cinema' for an afternoon!

Condolences - We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of the late Mrs Elen Mairiona Jones ( Llanrwst). 'Rona' has been with us at the Home for over four years now and she will be greatly missed. She was a unique and extremely endearing character and devoted to her family. Many thanks to Elfrys, Wyn, Huw and Rhiannon for all your support from us during your mother’s illness. In the same way we sympathize with the family of the late Mrs Medwen Jones (formerly Blaenau Ffestiniog) who has been with us here at the Home for almost four years now. We remember Medwen as a very loving Mother to Eryl and Nia and also how happily she joined in with every activity in the Home. She will be greatly missed by her caring family and all here at the home.

Job Promotion - We would like to congratulate our Nurse Kelsey Parry (Llangernyw) who has been promoted to her new role as Clinical Home Supervisor. Her role will include taking responsibility for all the medication as well as rearranging our clinical room. Congratulations Kelsey!

Holidays - Our Nursing Manager Meryl Welsby enjoyed a holiday to Krakow a week before Christmas with the children Morgan and Mali . They visited Auschwitz, the Museum at the old Shindlers factory (where so many of the Jews were saved) and did a tour of the few Synagogues that still remain in Krakow. The break was an extremely moving one especially considering the cold weather in Poland during December and they had to stay three extra days due to thick fog at the Krakow airfield. It was nice to have them back on Christmas Eve. Our senior carer Elain Morris enjoyed a week's holiday for her 30th birthday celebrations! She shopped in York Christmas Markets and enjoyed the occasional night out.
Thank you to our Head Clinical Nurse Gabi Sabadus and to our Clinical Supervisor Kelsey Parry for looking after the Home during Meryl's absence.

A word of thanks - A big thank you to all the residents and their families for the many gifts and contributions received by the staff of the Home. We appreciate all the delicious treats and contributions which will enable us to have a night out soon. Thanks also to everyone who took part in our raffle again this year and those who contributed to the many prizes. There were a number of winners after the raffle was drawn between Christmas and the new year.

Happy New Year to you all!!
